Alabama State Bar Sponsors Group Health Plan for Members:
A Letter from Alabama State Bar President Christy Crow

Dear Alabama State Bar Members,

As many of you know, the Board of Bar Commissioners approved the adoption of an Association Health Plan (AHP) for our members in March. Since then, we’ve been working diligently to launch the program and we are excited to announce that, effective August 1, 2020, our plan will begin!

Click here for details on the plans that will be available. Enrollment materials can be found here. We knew it was important for our members that these plans be flexible and offer options. With our AHP, you have the ability to choose as many as three health options, two dental options and the vision plan. This means that each employee can elect their own level of coverage and specific benefits. This unprecedented level of customization is truly in the best interest of our members and will allow our plan to be valuable and remain viable.

A primary goal I had this year was to improve member benefits and healthcare is one of the most expensive benefits many of us have. Our Insurance Benefits Task Force navigated the new rules pertaining to Association Health Plans and we formed partnerships with BlueCross, VSP and Alliance Insurance Group to meet our goal and have plans  that provide value to our members while keeping their healthcare costs down.

In the coming weeks, you may be contacted by representatives from our Third-Party Administrator, Alliance Insurance Group with instructions and guidance on how our plan can work for your firm. If you would like to reach out to them directly, you may do so via email at albar@allianceinsgroup.com. Mike Hicks and his team stand ready to answer any question you may have. They are seasoned employee benefit consultants and can help you navigate this new opportunity.

There is still work to be done between now and August 1 but we wanted to go ahead and make it official: The Alabama State Bar will sponsor group health, dental, and vision plans for our members! We look forward to bringing you more information and details at the Annual Meeting.

We hope that you join us in our excitement over this large endeavor and support us as we launch these new plans. As always, we remain Better Together.

Sincerely,

Christy Crow
