Executive Director Application Deadline this Friday

The Alabama State Bar Executive Director job announcement is posted online, and the application deadline is this Friday, Jan. 15. Please continue to share with those in your circles.

As you know, the Alabama State Bar has retained Birmingham-based OnBoard Search to handle the administrative work of the permanent executive director search.  After screening and interviewing candidates, the Executive Director Task Force hopes to select a candidate, or candidates, by Apr. 2, 2021. Such candidate(s) will then be presented to the Board of Bar Commissioners for vote at a special-called April meeting or at the already scheduled May meeting.

Update on Interim Executive Director Plans

Thursday, the decision was made to delay seeking legislative approval of the interim contract for Ellen Brooks due to a new concern being raised regarding her supernumerary status as a district attorney. President Methvin is conducting additional research and considering the best course of action. For now, our four person Management Team will remain in place until a decision is made about how to move forward.  We will keep you updated as things progress.

Start Your Year with Free CLE Credits

The Alabama State Bar's ProLearn platform, which offers free, on-demand CLE courses for Alabama lawyers went live in late August 2020. Through Dec. 31, 2020, we had 2,987 attorneys who accessed the platform and completed a total of 20,270 courses. The 27 courses that we ended up with in 2020 have been reset for 2021, and we will be adding new courses soon. We appreciate the vision of President Methvin to make these courses available, and to President-Elect Taze Shepard for his work to secure many of these courses for our members. You can access this important member benefit at https://alabar.prolearn.io.
