ASB Job Announcement: Alabama Lawyer Assistance Case Manager

The Alabama State Bar is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the ALAP Case Manager.  The ALAP Case Manager is responsible for monitoring lawyers and law students struggling with addiction and/or mental health issues. The case manager maintains detailed records of each client’s participation. The case manager informs the ALAP Director of any noncompliance issues regarding clients. The case manager must communicate with mental health professionals and agencies who have committed to assisting ALAP clients. The case manager may also meet in person or speak by phone with clients to help assist with program requirements. The case manager meets directly with the ALAP Director for staff meetings and participates in conference calls with the ALAP committee.  The case manager will be expected to work daily in the office at the Alabama State Bar and some travel, within Alabama, will be required.  In addition to the duties listed above, the case manager shall also perform other duties as assigned by the ALAP Director.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. A college degree is required.
  2. Experience working with a Professional Monitoring Program or within a mental health agency is preferred.
  3. Experience in the field of alcoholism/addiction/recovery and a working knowledge of substance use disorders and other mental health diagnoses is preferred.
  4. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  5. Ability to effectively manager interpersonal conflict and flow of work.
  6. Ability to communicate information and explanations as well as interact effectively in a patient and tactful manner with individuals.
  7. Ability to maintain and update the necessary mental health and wellness resources for appropriate referrals and to establish and update an in-state network of lawyers/judges to assist with program operations.
