Hon. Gaines C. McCorquodale honored with Judicial Award of Merit
MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. and MONTGOMERY, Ala.—The Alabama State Bar has awarded Judge Gaines C. McCorquodale the 2022 Judicial Award of Merit.
McCorquodale was presented with the award at the 145th Annual Meeting of the Alabama State Bar on June 25, 2022, at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Miramar Beach, Fla. Judge McCorquodale was celebrated for the many ways he impacted his community and profession.
McCorquodale was a 1971 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. He practiced law with his brother in the firm they started from 1971 until 2009 when he became Circuit Judge. McCorquodale is presently the Presiding Circuit Judge for the First Judicial Circuit, which includes Clarke, Choctaw and Washington counties.
Alabama State Bar President Taze Shepard said, “The Alabama State Bar is proud to award Judge McCorquodale with the Judicial Award of Merit. He exemplifies a dedication to the rule of law, and we are grateful for the wisdom, fairness and passion he brings to the bench.”
McCorquodale held numerous positions during his legal career including chairman of the State Oil and Gas Board and a member of the President’s Cabinet at the University of Alabama. McCorquodale is also an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson where he teaches the Christian Fellowship Sunday School class.
“Judge McCorquodale is very deserving of this award,” Alabama State Bar Executive Director Terri Lovell said. “We have all benefited from his contributions to the administration of justice in Alabama”
The Judicial Award of Merit is presented annually to a judge, whether state or federal court, trial or appellate, and the recipient is presented with a crystal gavel bearing the state bar seal and the year of presentation.
