Solo + Small Firm Section Formed
Published on April 23, 2015
The Board of Bar Commissioners has approved the recommendation of the Solo & Small Firm Practice Task force for the formation of a Solo & Small Firm Section of the Alabama State Bar.
The mission of the section is to work to improve solo and small firm practitioners’ ability to meet with distinction the demands and expectations of their clients, the courts, the legal profession, and their communities. The section seeks to fulfill its mission by promoting the ethical and efficient practice of law by small law firms; providing educational and practice resources oriented toward these firms; establishing and maintaining relationships with other bar entities and other organizations; monitoring legislative, judicial and other developments of interest to small firms; and promoting and advocating the interests of this constituency within the Bar.
The initial section leadership is currently organizing offerings for section members, which are expected to include:
- low-cost continuing legal education courses
- technology training
- an email discussion list
- networking opportunities
- a substantive law forms bank
You may join the section now for the remainder of the 2014-2015 bar year by filling out and returning the initial membership application and your check made payable to the Alabama State Bar. Section dues are $15 and may be waived upon request for those in their first year of practice as a solo practitioner or in a small firm (5 lawyers or fewer). Beginning October 1, 2015, dues for this section will be collected annually on the consolidated dues invoice.
